Santa Barbara Halloween

Halloween was crazy good fun. We drove from L.A. to Santa Barbara and stayed with my brother, who's a sophomore at UCSB. I was Lady Gaga, Tasha was Katy Perry, and Brenna was a ladybug. Aw! We're so precious. I made the sunglasses myself with rhinestones and a hot a glue gun, by the way. And the pictures were taken with disposable cameras. I love the quality. Definitely doing that again en el futuro.October 8, 2009
Follow Your Heart

Today was a good day. I picked up Sam from school and we went to Follow Your Heart. It's this adorable little market slash restaurant on Sherman Way with vegetarian and vegan food. I'm not any of the above, but I love it. The above picture was taken there. Nothing like some vegan food and catching up with a friend. My best friend Devon is coming home soon. I'm so excited! I'm also extremely excited for the Space 15 Twenty monthly flea market, which starts October 18th. I can't wait to snatch some cheap vintage goodies. Yum. Check out the flyer below.

Dear Devon,

I would meet you for the first time only a few short years after this picture was taken, in second grade. I was crying over a math problem I couldn't solve. That was the way I used to be - a perfectionist. And there I was, in my floral jumper and jellie sandals, crying. "I think you do it like this," you said, taking my pencil gently and showing the relatively simple problem broken down into steps on my paper. It was the tiny spark that started it all.
You'd think we'd become best friends right after that, but life doesn't always work that way. Our story is not a Chicken Soup for the Soul story, it's real and it took time, as great things often do. I left Round Meadow elementary school after that year, but little did I know, if I hadn't met you then, I probably never would have. I remember the next time I saw you, years later, in fifth grade, at my new elementary school. I recognized you instantly at our school's open house. I was wearing my favorite yellow tank top with an elephant on it, I remember. I was so boisterous and outgoing then. I called out to you right away, not even hesitating. "Hey!" I said. "Devon!" You turned around. You remembered me too. That year, I graduated elementary school one year early, bound for middle school. The year after that, you would follow me there.
That was when our friendship really started. We had so much fun talking about horror movies, working on the student newspaper, and pushing the buttons of our conservative Catholic school teachers. I never thought such free spirits could thrive in that school filled with pleated skirts and rigidity. But somehow we did. And somehow we went on to different high schools.
For a lot of people, that would have been the end. But you earned a new title - "my best 'outside of school' friend" and kept it, miraculously. We endured high school heartache, together. We grew to find our tastes and ourselves, together. We filled our black and white worlds with color, like the Pleasantville characters in our own story. It was second grade all over again - you were my hero. When I cried, there you were. When you cried, I wanted to beat up whoever made you cry. When we laughed, we shared the moment. When we had our first fight, senior year, I went away, and you wrote me a letter. I never doubted our friendship ever again. It was at that moment I realized, although we never really felt need to label it, that you were my best friend, and not just outside of school. I'd never felt such a sense of belonging. More than that, I was so blessed to know that my best friend wasn't just anyone - it was you.
Now you're in college, in San Francisco, to be exact. You went to Lovefest last week, and I went to Les Deux. I'm typing this letter from my room, remembering yours, and how if I went just over the hill to your house, you wouldn't be in it. It hurts knowing you aren't close, but in reality, you really are. You always will be. Our worlds may be changing, and we might be too. But that doesn't mean our friendship will. Someday you're going to live a block away, and we're going to have barbeques and picnics with our children and our families, and we're going to laugh about things that don't even matter to us now. And we'll be just as close as ever. I just know it.
I can't wait to see you again. I miss you to bits. And I love you, Devster. I always will.
Love Always,
Tasha

Fantastic Mr. Fox
So Wes Anderson's latest film is coming out this Thanksgiving. I've always had this strange attraction to stop-motion animation. I just love the quirky quality it has. And the cast list speaks for itself. Since I adore Wes Anderson, I'm definitely going to see it. Watch the trailer above!

Animal Art Prints

I'm going to be honest - I love animals. National Geographic is one of my favorite magazines, and the Discovery Channel can be more entertaining than MTV. So of course I'd fall in love with animal-based art, a fusion of my favorite things. Here are some adowable animal art prints from Etsy. Click any of the pictures to shop.

Obsessee - My Latest Obsession

So this a collage of Urban's latest catalogue, collaged by my friend and fellow school newspaper staffer Madeline Sensible. She's the head honcho behind Obsessee, a cutting edge fashion blog on Typepad that showcases a variety of styles. If you want to see its fresh, versatile ingenuity, don't hesitate to click the collage. She's one of the people who inspired me to take up blogging again, and when you see her blog, you'll understand why. Enjoy!

Blogger Shop Day

So yesterday I went to Blogger Shop Day 2. It was at Space 15 Twenty, which is this amazing collaboration of stores (like Urban Outfitters and We The Free) in the heart of Los Angeles. The set-up was similiar to a flea market, and I snagged some pretty great things for cheap, like a vintage cropped denim jacket and a carved rose ring. I really hope they have another one soon.August 1, 2009
Pixie Market
I love Pixie Market. Check it out by clicking on the banner. Today is a bittersweet day - summer is ending soon. Sigh. It's always too short. I'll be a student at Santa Monica College in the fall, and I'm actually pretty nervous about it. But I know it'll be better than high school. There's a bright side to everything.

Memebon!
My heart is officially jello mush. This is Memebon. He's an Exotic Shorthair kitten that lives somwhere in Japan. I found pictures of him while browsing random Japanese websites. I've officially decided what type of kitty I want when I get my own place. And he'll look just like Memebon, the cutest kitty on the internet.

The Glass Village
I'm just your typical Los Angeles girl. I just turned 18, and I'm starting this blog because I honestly miss blogging. In this blog, you'll find all kinds of things: things I like, things I don't like, things I want, events I go to, dreams, quotes, poetry, pictures, short stories, and little bits and pieces that form the mosaic of my life. It will be my own special place, but both friends and strangers are welcome to it. I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I'll enjoy writing it! :]
